Introduction
For over 30 years, Working Well Trust has promoted better mental health and supported individuals recovering from mental illness. Since being founded by a group of mental health professionals who were passionate about improving low employment rates for individuals that experience mental health challenges, we have grown to support clients through a variety of expert services. Since our founding, our work has expanded to supporting clients who are neurodiverse or who are disabled.
We are as committed as ever to promoting the personal recovery of people with mental health problems. Personal recovery is not about a clinical diagnosis but about people feeling empowered to make their own assessment that they are leading a life that is fulfilling, even if they continue to experience symptoms of their mental health condition. Our projects focus on enabling people to find out what they can do and achieve; acknowledging that their mental health condition is important but not allowing their lives to be limited by it.
Our services work with and support clients from all walks of life and are representative of the diverse cultural background that exists in the boroughs we work in. We work with adults aged 18 plus and inclusive of the spectrum of mental health challenges they may face.
Recovery
We are committed to promoting the personal recovery of people with mental health problems. Personal recovery is not about a clinical diagnosis but instead focuses on people making their own assessment that they are leading a life that is satisfying, fulfilling and enjoyable even if they continue to experience symptoms of their mental health condition. Our projects focus on enabling people to find out what they can do and achieve; acknowledging that their mental health condition is important but not allowing their lives to be limited by it.
If you would like to know more about the recovery model and principles information can be found on the Mental Health Foundation website.
Employment
Employment is a key factor for many people on their road to recovery. Although work is often associated with negative experiences such as stress it can also be a highly beneficial experience. Work is the norm, it is a source of financial independence and provides for many a sense of identity and social status. Not working can limit a person’s experiences, restricts opportunities and the chance to take on new challenges. Employment is also linked to better physical health and improved life expectancy.
Working Well uses a broad definition of employment for our work, including full paid work, being in education and training, and volunteering.
Our services
Since we supported our first client over 30 years ago, we have since expanded to provide a range of specialist services aimed at providing support to individuals and organisations around work and mental health.
In work support
The In-Work Service exists to help employers effectively manage and support staff impacted by mental health challenges to stay well and in-work.
We work collaboratively with both employers and employees to promote the personal recovery of clients by helping to improve work conditions and reduce stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace.
Getting back to work
Our range of services provide direct support to clients at every stage of their job search, attainment and retention process, all with a focus on honouring client preference.
We also provide support clients to access volunteering, apprenticeships, work experience placements and find free accredited training opportunities. In some instances, we can provide partial funding for courses.
Starting a business
For many individuals with mental health issues, self-employment can be very appealing. Allowing the client autonomy to set the work they want to do, how they work and what hours.
We provide specialist support for clients interested in setting up their own business. Clients who use this service can decide at what pace they want to progress their plans.
